Black Clover

Black Clover

2008 Merlot Napa Valley

Irish lore tells of incredible luck being bestowed upon anyone fortunate enough to find a four-leaf clover. Ten thousand times more rare than the three-leafed norm, spotting one is an indication of both luck and a keen eye. It just so happens that these two attributes can bring great fortunes at the card table, turning a peasant (the class the suit originally symbolized) into royalty. Unfortunately for those already possessing great riches, the reverse is also true. So, caution, friend. We celebrate the ability of a man to improve his lot in life with our Black Clover Merlot.

  • 750 ML $46.00 Qty

The entry is vibrant and full with medium grain tannins and flavors of black currants and cherry. The wine evolves on the palate with fullness and balance leading to a long finish with mouth-coating tannins.

Raspberry, black currants, sassafras, dark chocolate, tobacco.

All of the grapes for the 2008 Black Clover were grown in the southern third of the Napa Valley where the relatively cool temperatures allow for well-structured yet soft wines. The bright fruit character (red fruits), lower acidity and bigger tannins originate from the northern-most vineyards; and the dark fruits, higher acidity and softer tannins originate from the more southerly vineyards.

Hand-harvested / Small-lot fermentations / 4-day cold soak / Tailored extraction / Minimal manipulation / Blend of maceration times ranging from 14-21 days.

980 cases

The delicious bright fruit and mouth-filling tannins make Black Cover an ideal dinner companion for more complex flavors such as lasagna, pork tenderloin, duck breast with cherry reduction, sweet breads, braised short ribs, macaroni and cheese with chipotle seasoning, and portabella mushrooms.

Best cheeses: Jarlsberg, Smoked Gouda, Maytag Blue
